Black palmwood
Botanical name: Oenocarpus Batawa
Origin: Guyana
Dark brown colour springe with creamy and yellow patterns. Black palm is just one of hundreds of species of palms in the world and, although it is often referred to as a hardwood, technically it is not. Like bamboo, it is a grass. typical black palm will only yield a small amount of wood.
Snake wood
Botanical name: Piratinera Guianensis
Origin: Suriname, Guyana
Snakewood is an incredibly beautiful wood considered by experts to be the World's rarest commercially available species. The part sold as snakewood is really the heartwood of the larger tree. It has reds and blacks in a traditional Viper pattern. This is undoubtedly where it acquired the name Snakewood. Much of the wood has inferior or no figure, but the small amount that has attractive figure is exported. The wood is difficult to work and dry wood can still check if it is heated while sanding.
Ziricote
Botanical name: Cordia Dodecandra
Origin: Central America
The heartwood is dull brown with irregular dark brown and black streaking, and the sapwood is creamy white to light golden tan.
Long used by natives for decorative craft objects, ziricote is also used for boat decking, turnings, interior joinery, furniture, cabinets.
Available in lumbre and sawn veneer.
